The entrance fountain at Rome and Eagle was vandalized Sunday morning, September 11. More than 11 gallons of soap was dumped into the fountain, which caused bubbles to overflow north on to Rome and east as far as the sidewalk along Eagle Road. Our vendor, Absolute Pool, was onsite for more than five hours on Sunday attempting to clear the bubbles out of the fountain and the surrounding area. We are waiting to find out whether the pump equipment was damaged. The ground and flowers in front of the fountain were completely saturated. We hope the flowers will survive.
This is the second time one of the fountains has been soaped this year. The fountain at Zaldia and Rome was hit a couple weeks ago. This time the culprits took it a step too far. 26 bottles of various soaps were recovered at the scene. The cost of cleanup and potential repairs is significant. A police report has been filed with the Meridian Police Department.
